Children without families during the holiday times

There are many Texas children in need of a family. While the process of becoming a foster parent or legal guardian for a child may involve a great deal of time and commitment, there may be ultimately no other process quite so rewarding.

One woman was in the foster system as a child. She is now a foster mother. She first became a foster parent around 12 years ago. Now at the age of 37-years-old, she has provided care for more than 50 foster children. She has adopted six of these children, and she also has two biological children. She has a permanent guardianship of children with ages of anywhere from 3 to 21-years-old. Though she claims that it's not always easy, she does feel that the rewards make it worthwhile.

One parent recruiter says that the holiday season is especially a good time to think about becoming a foster parent. "We always have more children who would benefit from foster care than we have foster homes," he stated. He says this is especially true during this time of year. It can be a hard time for children who are not a part of a family knowing that other children are able to enjoy Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Though guardianship of a minor is rarer than when it is used to take care of an incapacitated adult, it still can be a tool to care for children whose parents are deceased or incapacitated. It may be granted to grandparents or relatives.

If you have questions about foster parenting, adoption, guardianship or conservatorship, it is always helpful to speak to a family law attorney that has experience in this area.
